Unfortunately, even though on the surface there's a lot going on in Pokken Tournament - you'll definitely need to plough through the tutorials to get to grips with all the different gameplay elements - it's all just a bit too basic. While its influences are easy to spot, the makers of Pokken Tournament have still managed to create something that's both unique and entertaining, albeit not without problems. Fights begin in 3D arenas, where you can side-step, jump and run around freely, but land just a few hits and the action shifts to a 2D side-on viewpoint that better resembles something like Street Fighter - even down to the rock (block), paper (attack), scissors (throw) gameplay style.
